BMW says electric version of Mini to be built in Oxford

BMW picks Britain for electric Mini despite Brexit

BMW to build electric Mini in England despite looming Brexit

BMW Group has announced that a battery-electric Mini will go into production in 2019 at the company's factory in Oxford.

"The electric MINI's electric drivetrain will be built at the BMW Group's e-mobility center at Plants Dingolfing and Landshut in Bavaria before being integrated into the vehicle at Plant Oxford, which is the main production location for the MINI 3 door model", BMW said in a statement.

In fact, "the electric bit - the drivetrain, which includes the motor, gearbox and battery pack - will be assembled in Germany" and shipped into the UK.

BMW Group has been one of the early leaders in 21st century electrification. These range from the full-electric i3 to the newest electrified model, the Mini Cooper S E Countryman ALL4, a plug-in hybrid version of the Mini Countryman, which is produced by VDL Nedcar in the Netherlands. Given the fact that the group has nine different models across all brands, it doesn't look all that hard, you've to say.

CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani might be asked to step down?
The source says, "A screening was held for the CBFC in February, following which Pahlaj and his team refused to certify the film". Thus, they should set good example and not be shown drinking or smoking on the silver screen unless it is very important.

Earlier this month, Reuters reported that BMW's Oxford factory in England was the favored location for manufacture of an electric version of the Mini, with the vehicle's powertrain being delivered from factories in Dingolfing and Landshut.

Before the electric Mini, BMW will launch the i8 Roadster in 2018, the firm has confirmed.

By 2025, BMW believes that anything between 20-25 per cent of vehicle sales will come from electrified vehicles but the charging infrastructure in all its markets will play a vital role. The all-electric BMW X3 has been announced for 2020, and the BMW iNEXT is due in 2021.

"Our adaptable production system is innovative and able to react rapidly to changing customer demand", Zipse said in a statement.

European Union "ready to retaliate" against USA over new Russian Federation sanctions
This brought about fears in Germany, where firms are already involved in the project carrying Russian gas across the Baltic Sea. The measure, if signed into law, will also give Congress veto powers to block any easing of Russian sanctions by the president.

Brussels and London should show "pragmatism" in Brexit talks to avoid pitfalls that could harm industry, he said at the time, adding that BMW had European production facilities outside the United Kingdom that could take on Mini production.

"BMW Group production system will create structures that enable our production facilities to build models with a combustion engine, plug-in hybrid or fully electric drive train at the same time".
