The computer player was built, trained and optimized by OpenAI, Elon Musk's AI boffinry squad based in San Francisco, California. Between the event's official games, Valve always includes some fun show matches, and this year it brought in Open AI's aforementioned Dota 2 bot to face off against the game's most famous player, Danil "Dendi" Ishutin, live on the main stage.
The bot made its worldwide debut at The global, the largest esports tournament in the world with a prize pool of $24 million.
S. Korea, US, Japan vow to fully implement new NK sanctions
The meeting comes as the USA and Asian nations join together to try to step up Pyongyang's economic and diplomatic isolation. The new sanctions won't end that - or address the Chinese companies and banks that continue to do business with North Korea.
"This bot isn't like anything you've ever played against". OpenAI CTO Greg Brockman said it took two weeks to train the bot, and it had previously beaten the world's top 1v1 player and the overall top-ranked player in the world.
Complex strategy games are all the rage in the AI world at the moment.
Markets extend losses as Korea tensions escalate
In oil, the price of Brent crude sunk by 0.5% to 51.65 USA dollars a barrel amid concerns about over supply in the market. Non-OPEC production will get a health check later today when the Baker Hughes U.S. rig count is published at 1:00 p.m.
It's not only Google's AI that has the potential to defeat humans in their own game. Footage of those matches can be found on Dota 2 Rapier's YouTube channel. Agents must learn to plan, attack, trick, and deceive their opponents. OpenAI is now working on a 5 on 5 bot as well. The bot learned the game from scratch by self-play, and does not use imitation learning or tree search.
Much as we'd hate to see our favourite teams get thrashed by a team of bots, it's hard to pretend that we're not excited at the prospect. "Our next step is to create a team of Dota 2 bots which can compete and collaborate with the top human teams", read the blog.
Pep Guardiola: Premier League players £20-£25m more expensive
This summer we had to do that because we had one of the oldest teams in Europe, not just the Premier League. He added: "We played four games, one with four at the back and the last three with three at the back".
PS: Elon Musk tweeted this evening to say AI is, right now, a bigger threat to the world than North Korea, adding: "Nobody likes being regulated, but everything - cars, planes, food, drugs, etc - that's a danger to the public is regulated".
