Canadian teenager Denis Shapovalov delighted his home fans when he battled from a set down to record a stunning upset victory over top seed Rafael Nadal in the third round of the Rogers Cup on Thursday, temporarily spoiling the Spaniard's chances of returning to world number one.
Haase will face the victor between second-seeded Roger Federer and Roberto Bautista Agut in the semifinals on Saturday.
In the quarters, Shapovalov defeated Frenchman Adrian Mannarino to reach advance to the semi-finals where he will take on Alexander Zverev tomorrow (as per IST).
Haase, who upset seventh-seeded Grigor Dimitrov in the third round, reached his first career Masters Series semifinal.

Shapovalov's mother, Tessa, is a Russian Catholic, according to the Times of Israel.

Shapovalov had just three wins this season coming into the tournament.
