McPartlin told The Sun on Sunday that his addiction to painkillers worsened during 2016 but reached its peak earlier this year when he used a cocktail of drugs to help him through his presenting duties, including a dance routine with Take That on Saturday Night Takeaway. "I'm in a bad way".

The presenter - one half of the duo Ant & Dec - has since left the facility and is clean of all drugs other than paracetamol for the first time in three years.

"It was never insane - I wouldn't wake up in the morning and have a drink. It was to the point of hearing things, seeing things in the garden and still the pain was getting worse", he said.
