Report: Washington and Pyongyang engaged in back-channel diplomacy

Rodong Sinmun, North Korea's official newspaper, said the volunteers had offered to join or rejoin the People's Army after the Korea Central News Agency (KCNA) issued a statement on Monday condemning new sanctions imposed by the United Nations in retaliation for North Korean missile tests.

"In North Hwanghae Province, 89,000 young men pleaded to enlist or reenlist on August 9 alone".

Over 100,000 citizens gathered in Pyongyang to support the government's pledge of retaliation against the United States.

Tension has been rising since North Korea tested two intercontinental ballistic missiles or ICBMs in July. Russia, however, said that the missiles were intermediate range. United President Donald Trump has personally praised India for this step. Trump has repeatedly stated that the White House has run out of patience with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
