State Police helicopter has crashed near a golf course in Charlottesville, Virginia

Virginia State Police say a helicopter has crashed near Charlottesville, Virginia, where violent clashes erupted at the site of a white nationalist rally. It's confirmed it was a state police helicopter. Police said no one on the ground was hurt.

The helicopter went down about seven miles southwest of Charlottesville, Va.


Virginia Professional Fire Fighters president, Robert Bragg III, said on Twitter that the helicopter involved in the crash was a state police helicopter.

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash.

Emergency crews were responding, according to CBS affiliate WCAV-TV.

The crash happened in a wooded area near a home on Old Farm Road.

Flooding possible Saturday into Sunday
Behind the front, high pressure will begin to build and settle across the region through Sunday leading to partly cloudy skies. Areas of heavy rain with a few thunderstorms will continue into Saturday afternoon and into Saturday evening.

According to local reports, there were two people on board when it crashed, however it is not known if there are any injuries or fatalities.
