Ronald Koeman lays down the ambitions for Everton this season

Spurs have yet to make a new signing this summer and remain the only Premier League club yet to dip into the transfer market, but a move for a new defender has been mooted throughout the summer.

TOTTENHAM are closing in on their first summer signing in Ajax defender Davinson Sanchez, according to reports.

A new defender is on Pochettino's agenda and Sanchez emerged as a prime target late last week with widespread reports suggesting Tottenham were in talks for the Colombian global.

Sanchez's versatility can also help strengthen Pochettino's back line since the defender is adept at playing as a centre-back and a right-back.

China Ratchets Up Pressure on North Korea
The regime added to the tensions with its threat Wednesday to launch a missile strike on the US territory of Guam in the Pacific. Pyongyang's consultative council was formed to expressly deal with South Korea , according to South Korean news service Newsis.

The switch to Ajax has seen Sanchez develop his game further.

His performances for Ajax also got him into the Colombia setup, and he made his debut for their senior national team in 2016.

The Spurs manager has been criticized for a good chunk of this summer due to his inability in making quality additions to the first team.

Pochettino has worked between a number of different formations and has fielded both a back four and three centre-halves over the last 12 months.

Flooding possible Saturday into Sunday
Behind the front, high pressure will begin to build and settle across the region through Sunday leading to partly cloudy skies. Areas of heavy rain with a few thunderstorms will continue into Saturday afternoon and into Saturday evening.

Sjors van Veen, who is an increasingly renowned source of transfer news regarding Holland-based players, claimed on his personal Twitter account on Saturday evening that it is a "done deal" for Sanchez to join Spurs.

Kyle Walker was sold earlier this summer and a new right-back is believed to be a priority for Tottenham, with Eric Dier or Kyle Walker-Peters seemingly set to operate in the role this weekend.

Tottenham start their Premier League campaign at Newcastle United on Sunday.

Pochettino also has an interest in Manchester United striker Anthony Martial but Tottenham have not made an offer for the France worldwide and believe he will be out of their price range.
