An expert on North Korea's military has said that recently released satellite images of the nation's military installations suggest it could be preparing for submarine-based ballistic missile test, reports AFP news. Satellite imagery of a submarine base show coverings have been suspended to obscure any activity from view.

US -based North Korea monitoring Web site "38 North" released satellite imagery of a shipyard and submarine base in North Korea on Friday.

Military experts have suggested that, the North could be preparing for an upgrade to its existing submarine's launch systems Pukguksong-1.

Joseph Bermudez, a specialist on North Korean defense and military, shared photographs on "authoritative 38 North blog" of the US-Korea Institute at Johns Hopkins University and claimed that the images show preparations by North Korean for a submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) test.

The Pukguksong-1 is a SLBM, whose first successful test dates back to 24 August 2016.
