Amazon to open robotic DC in Bolton

Amazon UK is to open a robotic fulfilment centre in Bolton next year.

All permanent Amazon fulfilment centre employees earn £8.15 an hour or more after two years of employment, with pay increasing from a starting salary of £7.65 an hour and above.

The warehouse will reportedly be equipped with advanced Amazon Robotics technology, allowing for increased automation capabilities at the site. "Robots help speed order processing time and reduce walking by employees by moving the shelves to employees, reducing the time taken to stow items for sale or pick them for new customer orders".

Bolton will be the third Amazon fulfilment centre in the North West and will take the number of permanent jobs Amazon has created in the region to more than 3,500, as it expands its United Kingdom operation to meet increasing customer demands.

Last year, unfazed by the UK's European Union referendum outcome in favour of Brexit, Amazon announced that it would open warehouses in Daventry, Doncaster, Warrington and Tilbury in 2017, creating more than 3,500 new permanent full-time jobs.

Amazon has started recruiting for a range of new roles for the fulfilment centre, including operations managers, engineers, HR and IT specialists. As well as sites which have recently opened in Warrington, Tilbury and a new site in Doncaster, it has two further fulfilment centres in Doncaster, and one each in Coalville, Daventry, Dunfermline, Dunstable, Gourock, Hemel Hempstead, Manchester, Milton Keynes, Peterborough, Rugeley and Swansea Bay.
