Trump will become the first sitting US president to address the Family Research Council's Values Voter Summit, making it his third appearance in the 12 years of the forum.

At last year's event, Trump eulogized Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia and conservative activist Phyllis Schlafly, both of whom were vocal opponents of LGBT rights and promised attendees that as president he would repeal the Johnson Amendment, the 1954 change in the USA tax code introduced by then-Senator Lyndon B. Johnson that prohibits tax-exempt organizations, mostly churches, from endorsing or opposing candidates for elected office.

The president made an appearance at the convention previous year, but he was then only a presidential nominee.

Trump is scheduled to speak during Friday's opening plenary session, which runs from 8:45 a.m.to noon.

"Values voters are coming to our nation's capital thankful to hear from a president who is fulfilling the promises that he campaigned on", Perkins added in a press release, noting the president's executive order on religious liberty and the follow-up actions last week by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Justice.

This news comes on the heels of Trump's recent "Religious Freedom" guidance which will allow for a multitude of discriminations based on someone's sexual preference or gender identity.

Trump's former senior aide Steve Bannon and House Majority Whip Steve Scalise are also among the weekend speakers. It has drawn over 3,000 plus attendees from around the nation and foreign countries. "Garnering national and worldwide media attention, CNN has called it "one of the top 10 political events of the year" and 'one of the conservative movement's marquee annual events.' Sean Hannity called it 'the premier conservative event now in the country'".
