Volkswagen seeks more distance from Dieselgate with electric race car

After two non-descript posts from Volkswagen's twitter account previewing a bulbous futuristic racecar, suddenly VW has put it all into context with a follow up video and full image of its new Pikes Peak vehicle due to hit the hillside next year.

The Pikes Peak global hillclimb is one of the most famous annual racing events and it dates back to 1916 when the first race was organised in the Rocky Mountains near Colorado Springs. "Our electric race auto will be equipped with innovative battery and drive technology". It will also mark the first time in 31 years VW has competed in the hill climb.

Best and Worst Halloween Candies
Michigan, a place where about one in three people are obese, is really slumming it on the Halloween candy front. Reese's Cups, Salt Water Taffy (really?), and Skittles are all the second-most popular candy in five states.

The German brand has been teasing the new electric racer in a series of tweets, using the hashtags #UnfinishedBusiness and #ChallengeReloaded. "It poses an enormous challenge and is therefore perfectlly suited to proving the capabilities of upcoming technologies", explains Dr Frank Welsch, Member of the Board responsible for Development. That includes a revival of the iconic Microbus as an EV passenger and commercial van in 2022 and a production EV crossover in 2020.

The German automaker has begun a teaser campaign with two vague images showing off a curvy race auto and saying it has unfinished business at Pikes Peak. A Tesla Model S set the record for a production vehicle the same year, at 11 minutes and 48.264 seconds. The project's engineers must come up with an EV that can climb the course in less than the 8:57.1 needed by Rhys Millen and his e0 PP100 previous year. The course is 12.4 miles long and climbs 4,700 feet to the summit of the mountain at over 14,000 feet above sea level.
