Vancouver approves $49 annual licence for short-term rentals including Airbnb

Vancouver councillors are expected to decide today if the city will require a licence for anyone hoping to list their property as a short-term rental on sites such as Airbnb.

The City Council passed the new tax Monday with plans for the cost to be tacked onto guest bills starting in 2019. People renting a private or shared room in their house or apartment would pay $8 for every night they rent out their room; those renting out an entire house or apartment would pay $14 per night.
