Flynn eyed gains if sanctions fell

Flynn told associate Russia sanctions would be ‘ripped up’ early in Trump presidency

Flynn texted partners about nuclear plan during inauguration, whistleblower says

Within minutes of Trump's inauguration in January, Flynn informed his former associate that the plan to work with Russian Federation to build nuclear reactors in the Middle East was "good to go", because Flynn was ensuring the sanctions would be "ripped up" as one of Trump's first orders of business.

Staffers for the special counsel asked Mr. Cummings not to make the whistle-blower's account public until "they completed certain investigative steps", he wrote. Copson was working with Flynn to promote a joint project with Russian Federation to build nuclear reactors in the Middle East.

Cummings detailed the whistleblower's allegations in a letter to committee chairman Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., and urged Gowdy to authorize subpoenas to Flynn and his business associates to learn more about his efforts. The whistleblower said during a conversation, Copson described his messages with Flynn and briefly flashed one of the texts, which appeared to have been sent 10 minutes after Trump began speaking.

The whistleblower told House Democrats that while Trump spoke at his inauguration, Flynn texted from his seat on the Capitol steps to Alex Copson, the managing director of ACU Strategic Partners and the nuclear project's main promoter.

In his letter, Mr. Cummings also said that his staff had been in consultations with Mr. Mueller's team, which brought the criminal charge against Mr. Flynn. Given the seriousness of the charge and the person making it, if the committee isn't going to issue a subpoena, Robert Mueller nearly certainly will.

Neither Gowdy nor Flynn's attorney, Robert Kelner, responded immediately to a request for comment.

The letter went on to say that "Mr. Copson explained that General Flynn was making sure that sanctions would be "ripped up" as one of his first orders of business and that this would allow money to start flowing into the project".

"Mike has been putting everything in place for us", the whistleblower claims Copson said.

In Flynn's agreement last week to plead guilty to one count of making false statements, prosecutors said that Flynn lied to Federal Bureau of Investigation agents about his discussions on sanctions against Russia with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak during the presidential transition.

Mr. Gowdy and Mr. Cummings have a long history of clashing publicly over politically charged investigations.

Today, I am writing to inform you about a whistleblower who has come forward with evidence that Lt. The witness could not read the text, but he saw that the time stamp was 12:11 p.m., according Cummings's letter. Mr. Copson confirmed in a letter to me on June 27, 2017, that his company paid the expenses for a trip General Flynn made to the Middle East in June 2015 to promote his project and provided a $25,000 check to compensate him for the "loss of income and business opportunities resulting from this trip".

The letter from Cummings concluded with a request to issue subpoenas for "all documents and communications referring or relating" to Flynn's foreign contacts during the Trump campaign, the transition period and his brief time as national security adviser. Now Cummings wants to look into the matter.
