Indiana Education Board Approve New Graduation Requirements

The Indiana State Board of Education has approved new requirements mandating that students do more to graduate from high school starting in 2023.

Wednesday, the Indiana State Board of Education voted 7-4 to approve the "Graduation Pathways", which were previously approved by a special panel in early November.

"I am excited for the opportunities these new pathways will provide Hoosier students", said Dr. Byron Ernest, chairman of the Graduation Pathways Panel.

CM Sindh, former mayor appear before SC Karachi Registry
Sindh CM asked the court to let him present his viewpoint, upon which the court replied that he will be given full time to speak. Justice Faisal Arab also remarked that people moved the courts when the government failed to dispose of its responsibilities.

In addition to existing requirements, students must obtain an industry certificate or take the SAT to qualify for a diploma.

Students meet that requirement through project, service, or work-based learning experiences. "Following hours of public comments and hundreds of emails from parents, teachers, counselors and school administrators, asking members to slow down and figure out the many unknowns, their voices were ignored".

The diploma becomes an issue because the new federal Every Student Succeeds Act requires school districts and states to calculate their high school graduation rates based on the high school diploma earned by the majority of graduates, Cain said.

For current high school students, those graduating in 2019, 2020, 2021, or 2022, ISTEP 10/End-of-Course Assessments will continue to be used as the graduation qualifying examination. If students are forced to leave high school without any diploma, they likely will have trouble applying for jobs and any post-high school education, educators such as Superintendent Chris Himsel of Northwest Allen County Schools have warned.
