The museum tweeted that "Da Vinci's Salvator Mundi is coming to #LouvreAbuDhabi", which was confirmed by Christie's, the auction house that handled the sale of the painting. The painting "Savior of the world" the crowned representative of the Arab countries bought at auction in the United States for $ 450 million.
According to the New York Times, the painting's buyer was not the museum but an outside party: one Prince Bader bin Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Farhan al-Saud, a "little-known" Saudi Arabian prince with no history as an art collector.
The 500-year-old painting is called "Salvator Mundi", Latin for "Savior of the World". The crown prince of Saudi Arabia and his counterpart in Abu Dhabi enjoy a close working relationship and on 5 December their countries announced the formation of a Joint Cooperation Committee to formalise existing collaboration on military, political, economic and cultural matters.
