UN envoy not carrying US government message on North Korea visit: US official

Jeffrey Feltman, the United Nations undersecretary-general for political affairs, met with Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho on Thursday, the second full day of the highest-level United Nations visit to the North since 2010.

Before the meeting took place, the North Korean official expressed his hope that the discussion would be "full of sincerity", Kyodo News reported.

According to Associated Press on Thursday, the UN Undersecretary General for Political Affairs Jeffrey Feltman held talks with Ri at the Mansudae Assembly Hall in Pyongyang.

The spokesman said that the political chief would address "issues of mutual interest and concern" with North Korean officials, leading to anticipation that the visit could defuse geopolitical tensions.
