Chennai: In a bright start to the placement season, students from IIT Madras has got 540 offers from 144 companies in the first four days which is an increase of 10 per cent compared to a year ago. The placement season had "kick-started" on December 1 with more than 200 offers including 20 global ones were made on the inaugural day itself. A few students opted for the institute's deferred placement available for those interested in pursuing their start-up dreams, IIT-Delhi said in a statement.

The IIT did not reveal the exact worth of the high-value packages, saying it felt undue publicity on the matter would devalue national placements over the global placements, among others.
