Overwatch Winter Wonderland Returns December 12, New Legendary Skins, New Game Mode

Overwatch Winter Wonderland event is back with an exciting game mode

Overwatch's Winter Wonderland event returns December 12

Aside from cosmetics, Mei's Snowball Offensive will also return from a year ago, which pits two teams of Meis against each other in a snowball fight-style conflict.

It's beginning to look a lot like seasonal-event time for online games, and Overwatch is showing up with the return of its fan-favorite Winter Wonderland holiday festival.

He also says that Winter Wonderland will include a seasonal pass-over of some of the maps, including the return of snowy Hanamura and King's Row, as well as a new seasonal pass on the Black Forest arena map. Mei has a special ability in this mode, where she can put down an ice trap.

Overwatch lead developer Jeff Kaplan didn't show us any gameplay footage of the event, but his description makes it sound like a very one-sided game of Pac-Man.

Kaplan also hinted at the arrival of a new, "long-awaited" Hanzo skin, previously seen in one of the Overwatch comics. Players are tasked with hunting him down before his rage sets in. But once Winston triggers Primal Rage, the mode flips: It becomes all about the Meis attempting to escape before Winston can kill them. If Winston dies, the Meis win; if enough of the Meis die, Winston wins. "And, well, I'm here to tell you it absolutely is". Kaplan says that the point of the seasonal brawls is to be fun, light-hearted distractions, and that it is created to be silly by nature.
