Leslie Weller has sued Witherspoon, along with Fincher and Flynn, claiming that she wrote a screenplay, titled "Out of the Blue" in 2005, which was stolen and later appeared as a novel and then as a movie, reported TMZ.

The most recent entry in the mainline series, Soulcalibur 5 , was released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2012. The gameplay trailer showed off both characters using weapons that had different coloured lighting.
In addition to suing Reese, Leslie is also suing the book's author Gillian Flynn, as well as the movie's director David Fincher. "But the plot turns and by the end, the husband and wife are both hated" and that her screenplay includes a scene with a hammer which leads the audience to believe the husband might hurt his wife, much like the movie does.
Citing multiple plot similarities, Weller says the premise of a crumbling marriage, a morally ambiguous husband and subsequent plot twist involving a wife's quest for revenge, were directly lifted from her original work.
