Report: Baylor's Matt Rhule interviewed for Colts' head coaching job

ESPN's Adam Rittenberg -

Matt Rhule interviewed with the Colts for the head coaching position vacated by the departure of Chuck Pagano. Looks like he'll be sticking it out.

Rhule took over as Baylor head coach in December of 2016, and went 1-11 in his first season a year ago. They've quietly been building a nice recruiting class, now ranking as the No. 30 team for the 2018 cycle on Rivals.

Baylor coach Matt Rhule has withdrawn his name a day after news got out that he interviewed with the team earlier this week. He became a top candidate to jump to a Power 5 school on the back of those 10-win campaigns, and somehow (for lack of better options?) made a decision to tackle the multi-faceted rebuilding situation at Baylor. Rhule's style of coaching would translate well in the National Football League, but would the coach of the Baylor Bears want the pressure of fixing a broken franchise with an owner who is well-known for public intoxication and bad business decisions?

Rhule just finished his first season at Baylor, with a 1-11 record in the wake of the mess Art Briles left behind. He was an assistant at Temple from 2006-2011, then became the program's head coach from 2013-2016. Lauderdale, Fla. He also worked briefly with Al Golden, a former National Football League player, 4-year Miami Hurricanes head coach, and the current Detroit Lions Tight Ends Coach.
