Coquelin: I should have left Arsenal sooner

Francis Coquelin admits that he should have probably left Arsenal in the summer rather than wait until the ongoing winter transfer window.

The move brings Coquelin's 10-year association with Arsenal to an end having been limited to just seven starts in all competitions this season. He agreed a four and a half year deal with the La Liga outfit with a release clause of €80m (£72.1m).

The midfielder made his debut for Arsenal in 2008 having signed from French club Stade Lavallois that summer.

On December 7, the High Court had granted bail to him to appear in an examination on December 18 under police custody. Her cross-examination was held in the district court on January 9 and earlier this week.

Coquelin completed a move away from the Gunners on Thursday and admitted during a press conference that it might have been the wrong decision to stay with Arsenal at the start of the season.

In recent seasons, though, the midfielder has dropped down the pecking order, with the likes of Granit Xhaka, Mohamed Elneny and Jack Wilshere standing in his way.

On completing his move, he said: "It's true that there was interest in the summer but in my head I wanted to continue at Arsenal and do well there".

"I nearly regret not having come before".

"I'm very happy, it's a big challenge for me, I start a new life, but I'm very excited", Coquelin told Valencia's website, saying he had talked to coach Marcelino Garcia Toral. I respect Cazorla's opinion a lot, so when he told me this, he convinced me. "I trust what he tells me", Coquelin explained while praising Arsenal's injured star Cazorla.
