Greece, FYROM hope for United Nations proposal this month in…

The new government of Macedonia under Prime Minister Zoran Zaev has accelerated negotiations with Greece to solve the problem.

Athens and Skopje have been locked in a dispute over the name Macedonia since the former Yugoslavia disintegrated in 1991, with Greece citing the disagreement as its reason for blocking Macedonia's efforts to join the European Union and North Atlantic Treaty Organisation.

Greece's Archbishop Ieronymos is adamant that said that the Church can not remain indifferent to the "Macedonia" name dispute.

The Churches stance has since 1992 been that FYROM is "appropriating and claiming what it does not own, that is, the Greek name of Macedonia, and thus injuring the Greek dignity and the historic reality".

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio's administration canceled the package because Aetna's relocation efforts are stagnant. The planned move was put on hold after CVS's December announcement that it would buy Aetna for $69 billion.

"There is a general feeling of fatigue in both countries due to this long-lasting dispute", Bujar Osmani, Macedonia's deputy prime minister, said in an interview with the Associated Press on January 11.

Greece does not want its neighbor to have the name "Macedonia", because of the existence of a region in Greece with the same name. He added that a solution will be reached in the first half of this year.

Meanwhile, Panos Kammenos, the leader of junior coalition partner Independent Greeks (ANEL), reiterated his party's opposition on Thursday to the use of the term "Macedonia" by FYROM but hinted he could discuss a Slavic version of the name and expressed his full confidence in Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias.

Recent reports also said that he would also consider the Slavic name Makedonija.

Many countries including Turkey recognize Macedonia with its present name.
