Ken Niumatalolo Is Reportedly A 'Serious Candidate' For Arizona Job

The University of Arizona may be close to hiring Navy head football coach Ken Niumatalolo, according to reports. Arizona quarterback Khalil Tate isn't thrilled with Niumatalolo's candidacy.

Anyone who watched Navy in recent years know that Niumatalolo's offense is nearly exclusively a running offense, utilizing the triple option. Tate (6'2/212) later deleted that tweet, so much as anything can be deleted from the internet.

Arizona parted ways with former head coach Rich Rodriguez earlier this month, and has yet to name a replacement. There is an impending sexual harassment lawsuit against Rodriguez.

The Wildcats went 7-6 in 2017, which marked Tate's first full season as the team's starting quarterback.

Appearing in 11 games this past season for the Wildcats, Tate - a dual-threat quarterback who had almost as many rushing yards as he had passing - went 111-of-179 for 1,591 yards with 14 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He also rushed for 1,411 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Niumatalolo has been linked to openings before but only on rare occasions has gone so far as to interview - most notably at BYU two years ago - and thus far has remained at Navy.
