An Ohio middle school teacher reportedly told a black student his friends would"lynch him if he didn't stay focused during class

The teacher reportedly told the boy, "If you don't get back on task, your friends are going to form an angry mob and lynch you".

Agee-Bell told WXIX-TV that her son, Nathan, reported that Thole "had told him that if he didn't get back on task, that his friends were going to lynch him, and we thought he must have misunderstood".

"I told her, 'Next time you're frustrated are you going to call him a n*****?'", Agee-Bell said she asked Thole. However, when she asked Thole about the incident and demanded an explanation, she realized the teacher's remarks were harsher than what Nathan had told her.

Welling up with tears, Tanisha accused Mason City Schools of setting up initiatives such as LGBTQ safe spaces for children, but failing to take advice on how to prevent vulnerable kids from being bullied.

We will continue to invest in training and resources on culturally proficient practices for administrators, educators and classified staff members that lift up our district's values.

"This is a serious miss on her part", said district spokeswoman Tracey Carson, adding that Thole's comment is especially disturbing given the horrific national context of slavery, segregation and lynching.

Of Nathan, she said, "It was unbelievable he was fearless enough to confront the teacher".

Agee-Bell told Fox 19 she was shocked.

Thole admitted she had acted out of frustration, and Agee-Bell agrees her son should have been focused on his work - but she said the explanation was completely unsatisfactory.

Agee-Bell says she couldn't believe what she was hearing. She said that conversation lasted five minutes.

"I said to him, [.] get to work", Thole wrote.

Though Thole apologized to the boy for the offensive remarks in the class, she never explained to the mostly-white class what was wrong about her comments.

"That's not a clear punishment", she told The Enquirer.

"My son was walking around thinking he did something wrong", Agee-Bell said. However, she said the district "investigated, documented, and set expectations for (the) future".

She chose to speak during a school board meeting, but the officials asked her to discuss her concerns privately afterwards. School employees praised the event using the hashtag #MasonShines.

She said two other children with parents on the council have experienced similar racially-charged situations in the last few months.

News of her son's experience came only days after a neighboring youth basketball team in Warren County was kicked out of its league for putting racist names on the back of their jerseys.
