Apart from McDaniels, Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia and linebackers coach Brian Flores were also interviewed by different teams in their search for their next head coach. According to sources, Schwartz said Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks did not make the cut after the first round of interviews, while Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo and former Denver Broncos assistant head coach Eric Studesville were not even considered for the job. "They had someone pull out yesterday because they are focused on offensive candidates. So, certainly that would make a lot of sense". If they are interested in McDaniels, the Colts will have to wait until the Patriots' season ends before they can sign him to a deal.
