H&M stores trashed in South Africa in protest over 'racist' ad

Police spokesman Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said police had to intervene and disperse a crowd using rubber bullets when protesters entered an H& M shop in East Rand Mall and stole several items.

While some aren't aware of the H&M advert that saw an worldwide backlash, EFF members say this was a mere warning to companies that publish racist ads.

Earlier this week H&M apologised for an advertisement featuring a black child modelling a sweatshirt with the slogan "coolest monkey in the jungle" which was widely criticised for being racist. "We are going to be here but the security has told us everything is fine", he said.

They ended their protest around 2pm, leader of the protest, Hendswell Baloyi, saying that "as long as H&M opens their doors, we will be here".
