A 3D journey through the Orion Nebula

The newly released video is an update and expansion of previous iterations of Orion nebula flythroughs based on Hubble data in 2014, and a 2010 snippet of an IMAX film about the Hubble Space Telescope narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio.

The team, led by visualization scientist Frank Summers from the Space Telescope Science Institute, used images from the Hubble and Spitzer telescopes. Still, it's not every day the cosmos can be experienced in three dimensions like this. The video switches between visible and infrared views.

Through digital visualization, viewers can experience furious star births, glowing clouds heated by intense and powerful radiations surrounding them. Through the video, people can experience a mind-boggling 3-minute fly-through view of the picturesque Orion Nebula.

A escolha, diz o jornal inglês, terá recaído no colégio Thomas's Battersea, que ganhou visibilidade mundial desde que dos filhos de William e Kate passaram a estudar ali.

Orion Nebula, also called Messier 42, is one of the brightest nebulae of the Milky Way galaxy and is visible to the naked eye in the night sky. The Hubble space telescope captures light in the visible range seen by humans, as well as longer and shorter wavelengths in the ultraviolet and near-infrared ranges.

The visualization comes from NASA's Universe of Learning program, which provides educational resources to students and others interested in the space agency's astrophysics research.

"By adding depth and structure to the unbelievable images, this flythrough helps elucidate the universe for the public, both educating and inspiring", said Space Telescope Science Institute visualisation scientist Frank Summers.

House Speaker Corcoran and other lawmakers have said HB 9 was inspired by the 2015 fatal shooting of Kate Steinle in San Francisco.

Scientific intuition and scientific knowledge guided the 3D interpretation for creating the movie. They first created a visible-light surface, and then an underlying structure of the infrared features.

The three-minute movie is meant to convey what space is really like - not the static 2D images we usually see, but huge, three-dimensional, dynamic and evolving.

A special rendering code was written to facilitate the efficient combination of the millions of semi-transparent elements of gas, to give an ethereal feel to the nebula.

"The main thing is to give the viewer an experiential understanding, so that they have a way to interpret the images from telescopes", Summers said.
