White Sox reportedly avoid arbitration with Jose Abreu, settle on $13 million

The White Sox and first baseman slugger Jose Abreu avoided arbitration Friday, according to FanRag Sports.

Abreu, who turns 31 later this month, hit.304 with 33 homers, 102 RBIs and a.906 OPS in 156 games in 2017. He has batted at least.290 with 25-plus home runs and 100-plus RBIs in all four of his Major League Baseball seasons.

Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski to miss Duke's game against Wake Forest
Capel led Duke to a 4-3 record last January after Krzyzewski, 70, had to step away for four weeks as a result of back surgery. He missed most of the second half of the 1994-95 season after complications from another back operation.

After the 2016 season, Abreu opted into salary arbitration for the final three years of the six-year deal he signed with the Sox as a highly sought free agent out of Cuba.

Abreu's name has been mentioned often this offseason in trade speculation, though it seems like the White Sox are intent on keeping the first baseman in the South Side's home clubhouse, where he has earned rave reviews as a teammate, leader and mentor for the organization's fleet of young players, chiefly fellow Cubans Yoan Moncada and Luis Robert. If an agreement is not reached for arbitration eligible players, an arbitrator determines the salary at a hearing in February.

While the White Sox may still be rebuilding, Abreu has been a great locker room presence for them, and likely will remain on the team for the 2018 season.
