Man Charged With Murder in New Haven Gas Station Shooting

Police said 35-year-old Kenneth Cooper was shot outside of the entrance to the Exxon gas station and convenience store at 775 Whalley Avenue just after 3 a.m.

31-year-old Joshua Council, of New Haven, was arrested and charged with the shooting murder of 35-year-old Kenneth Cooper.

Police said they responded to reports of shots fired near the Exxon Gas Station Convenience Store at the intersection of Whalley Avenue and Fitch Street at about 3 a.m. on Friday morning.

The shooting took place around 3:08 a.m. on January 12 when the city's ShotSpotter system detected gunfire in the area of Whalley Avenue at Fitch Street.
