A senior administration official said Trump wants the 2015 Iran deal strengthened with a follow-on agreement in 120 days or the United States will unilaterally withdraw from the global pact.
Iran's foreign minister said on Friday that U.S. President Donald Trump's latest decision on a nuclear deal between Iran and major powers undermined the solid multilateral agreement.
The ultimatum puts pressure on Europeans - key backers and parties to the 2015 global agreement to curb Iran's nuclear program - to satisfy Trump, who wants the pact strengthened with a separate agreement within 120 days.
US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said last week that he was working with Congress on legislative changes that would "strengthen the way the US enforces the agreement". To keep the U.S. in the nuclear agreement in the future, senior administration officials said Trump will pressure European partners to agree to impose new conditions on Iranian behavior.

THE glamour model girlfriend of Ukip's chief was last night accused of sending a series of racist tweets about Meghan Markle . Mr Bolton, 54, was already facing calls for his resignation after he left his wife for 25-year-old Jo Marney.
Trump has previously described the nuclear agreement as "the worst deal ever negotiated", even though Iran has been repeatedly found to be in full compliance.
"If at any time I judge that such an agreement is not within reach, I will withdraw from the deal immediately", he added.
Trump made the threat Friday as he extended waivers of key economic sanctions on Iran, keeping the accord alive at least for now.
Trump had come under heavy pressure from European allies to issue the sanctions waiver.

This would not entail negotiations with Iran but would be the result of talks with European allies, the official said. Trump has constantly criticised the pact inked between the six world powers - China, Russia, Britain, France, the United States and Germany - and Iran in 2015, in which the West promised to relieve sanctions on Tehran in exchange for a halt in Iran's efforts to develop a nuclear weapon. "No one should doubt my word".

The British and German foreign ministries said they had taken note of the decision and would confer with France before deciding on a course of action. It said the sanctions are against worldwide law and go against USA commitments, saying they would bring a "strong reaction" from Iran. He said Iran's restraint on long-range ballistic missile programs also must be linked to sanctions relief.
