North Korea's Olympics delegation leaves thorny questions behind

The handwritten invitation to President Moon was delivered by Mr Kim's influential sister, Kim Yo-jong, at a landmark meeting in the presidential palace in Seoul, as the Games opened on Saturday.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in is also going to have lunch with the pair - Kim Yong Nam and Kim Yo-Jong - on Saturday. Moon had said "let's create conditions to make it happen", the official said, an indication that Moon was likely to accept the invitation. "An early resumption of dialogue between the U.S. and the North is needed also for the development of the South-North Korean relationship", he said, according to his spokesman.

He criticized the Trump administration for straining too hard to signal disgust of Kim Jong Un's government.

But North Korea's awful record on human rights and the growing threat from its nuclear weapons program appeared out of mind.

The meeting comes after the USA warned against engagement with Pyongyang. And, you know, President Moon, has appreciated that.
