White House nearing decision on whether to approve release of memo Democrats say refutes GOP allegations against

Rep. Devin Nunes, the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee and author of the controversial Republican memo alleging government surveillance abuse during the 2016 presidential campaign, said on Sunday the White House did not block the release of the Democrats' rebuttal to the GOP note.

But White House chief counsel Don McGahn later said it could not be released in its current state "because the memorandum contains numerous properly classified and especially sensitive passages".

President Donald Trump is explaining his decision not to declassify a Democratic memo, saying the document is "very political" and needs heavy redactions.

Our sources say the Democratic memo-six pages longer than the GOP version released a week ago-has three main themes.

Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe said the dossier was necessary to obtain the warrants on Trump campaign volunteer Carter Page, according to the memo.

Trump's refusal to approve the Democrats' memo conflicts with the White House's previous position on the Republican memo.

"The President is inclined to declassify the memo", she said on ABC's "This Week", claiming that as written, it reveals intelligence sources and methods while the Republican document did not.

The seller also repeatedly pressed USA agents with offers of kompromat - compromising materials - on Trump, the Times said, citing US and European intelligence officials. "Republicans and Democrats on the Intelligence Committee voted UNANIMOUSLY to release this memo", Rep. Terri Sewell of Alabama, a Democratic member of the committee, wrote on Twitter. Millions of Americans are asking one simple question: "what is he hiding?" Specifically, Wray, a Trump appointee, said "the Federal Bureau of Investigation has grave concerns about material omissions of fact that fundamentally impact the memo's accuracy".

One interpretation of events is that Trump, in a flagrant move, used his authority to declassify selective intelligence that could undercut the Russian Federation probe, then used it again to keep secret information that does the reverse. Still, Schiff said, Democrats "look forward to conferring with the agencies to determine how we can properly inform the American people about the misleading attack on law enforcement by the GOP". Schiff said the comparison will help to expose any material blacked out for political purposes or to hide embarrassing or damaging information about the president and his associates. It instead instructed Democrats to work with the Justice Department to adjust the memo so that it could be released publicly.

At the time, Democrats complained that the Republican memo didn't give an accurate picture of how the warrants were supported and whether it was disclosed that political organizations bankrolled the dossier.

Because of this deception, Grassley and Graham "are referring Christopher Steele to the Department of Justice for investigation of potential violation (s) of 18 U.S.C. § 1001", which could lead to a criminal indictment.
