The former KGB agent, who has ruled Russian Federation since 2000, has been struck down with a cold, according to the Kremlin.

Ahead of the meeting, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said: "Russia continues preparations for the World Cup, much of the work has already been done".

"His working schedule is still there, but his cold has been taken into account", the spokesperson added, blaming "winter" for the illness.
