In a tweet, Rahul Gandhi alleged that Arun Jaitley is keeping his mouth shut on PNB scam to save his lawyer daughter.
"In a tweet titled "#ModiRobsIndia", Rahul said: "It's now revealed that our FM's silence on the PNB Scam was to protect his lawyer daughter, who was paid a large retainer fee by the accused just a month before the scam became public. "When other law firms of the accused have been raided by the CBI, why not hers", citing a report by the Wire.
According to the media report, Jaitley's son-in-law had confirmed receiving the retainership in December 2017, but added that he cancelled the engagement when the PNB scam came to light before any legal work could be referred to it. But, he said a "BJP-leaning website", wrote about this claiming The Wire was planning to do such a story to "ensnare" Jaitley.Читайте также: Seahawks keep S Bradley McDougald with 3-year, $13M deal
"We state that in December 2017, Chambers of Jaitley & Bakhshi were approached by M/s Geetanjali Gems Limited with a request for a retainer to represent them in their litigation and advisory matters".
His reference was to a CBI raid, as part of investigations into the PNB scam, on the Mumbai office of law firm Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas which had taken up an assignment just a few weeks before the scam was uncovered. The CBI had filed the first FIR in the scam on February 14 against Nirav Modi, his wife Ami, brother Nishal, Choksi and his firms Diamond R US, Solar Exports and Stellar Diamond.
