Top architect Richard Meier steps down after sex harassment claims

Among the accusations leveled at Meier are that he exposed himself to a woman in his NY apartment, grabbed a woman's underwear through her dress at a practice party, and "asking a woman to undress in his apartment so she could be photographed".

Meier, who grew up in Maplewood, is accused of harassing four women who worked for him and a fifth woman he met at a party, according to The New York Times.

As one of our most well-known alumni, Richard Meier has been associated with Cornell University and the College of Architecture, Art, and Planning through his gifts that support students and faculty.

Global warming threatens half of species in 33 key areas

"I am deeply troubled and embarrassed by the accounts of several women who were offended by my words and actions", Meier said in a statement on the firm's website.

The Getty was deeply dismayed to learn of the serious allegations involving Richard Meier. Alexis Zamlich, who did not speak to the Times due to a confidentiality agreement, received $150,000 to settle her claims that Meier exposed himself to her at his apartment, the paper reported. She left and later told management, according to the Times.

"We will swiftly explore what additional actions are appropriate" regarding previous gifts, Kleinman said. Lisetta Koe, a communications manager for the firm who said she'd already dealt with Meier advances, told Koe to write two copies of a letter detailing the incident "if anything were to happen". Both Stella Lee, who started working for Meier in 2000, and Judi Shade Monk, who began in 2003, told the Times they had been warned about his behavior.

Turkey Surrounds North Syrian City of Afrin

The Times confronted Meier about the allegations and he announced he would step away from his firm for six months. Lee said Koe described Meier as "always chasing women, and nothing stopped him" and said she once turned down Meier's attempt to come on to her.

Carol Vena-Mondt, a furniture designer who did not work for Meier, said the architect invited her to a dinner party while he was staying in LA in the 1980s, but when she showed up, it was just the two of them.

Meier won the Pritzker Prize for Architecture in 1984. His firm has also worked on the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, Mana Contemporary in Jersey City, New Jersey, the Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona, and the home of ARTnews "Top 200" collectors Cindy and Howard Rachofsky.

British Columbia may pull Vancouver out of World Cup bid
Legislature member Jas Johal says the government's "dithering" could mean B.C. loses an opportunity to help host the event. The federal government is promising up to $5 million in immediate help should the unified bid for the men's tournament win.

With Meier taking a six-month leave, four associate partners will manage day-to-day operations of the NY headquarters: Vivian Lee, Reynolds Logan, Bernhard Karpf and Dukho Yeon. We will update this story as we receive more information.
