A court here on Friday held Jagat Singh Tara guilty of assassinating former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh in a bomb explosion that left 17 persons dead. Tara had confessed to his role in the assassination.
Bhai Tara's legal counsel Advocate Simranjit Singh informed Sikh24 that Bhai Jagtar Singh Tara was in high spirit after pronouncement of punishment to him by the special CBI Court of Additional Session Judge J.S. Sidhu. It referred to Tara's confession letter submitted to court recently in which he had accepted his guilt and had expressed no remorse for his actions. They dug a 110-feet long tunnel from their barracks in January 2004 to make good their escape.
The lawyer said his client would not challenge the order in the higher court.

Another video from the scene appears to show angry partygoers trying to break into the auto after it stopped inside the nightclub. Other footage showed ambulances, fire engines and police cars outside the club and stunned party-goers being led away.
Earlier, Jagtar Singh Tara told the court that he does not regret killing Beant Singh, he also said that "I have been fighting the battle of Sikhs" freedom against the govt and will continue to do so'.
Tara was arrested in September, 1995 in Delhi.
He was later arrested from Thailand in 2015.

Rajoona who has not filed any appeal, Gurmeet Singh who has got life imprisonment, Paramjeet Singh Bheora, Lakhwinder Singh who is also sentenced to life imprisonment and Shamsher Singh.
Tara, along with other assailants, had assassinated Beant Singh in 1995 using an RDX-based explosive device strapped on a co-conspirator police employee named Dilawar Singh outside the Chandigarh secretariat.
