A similar chemical attack past year that killed more than 80 people in northern Syria prompted a limited US retaliation that targeted an air base from which aircraft involved in the strike likely deployed from.

In Paris, France's Emmanuel Macron upped the pressure on Moscow by stating he had "proof" that the Assad's regime had used chemical weapons, and vowing a response "at a time of our choosing".

"We call upon. members of the global community to seriously consider the possible consequences of such accusations, threats and especially action (against Syria)", Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said. "Assad must be held to account and the world must clearly demonstrate that chemical weapons are unacceptable anytime, anywhere, and in any context", he said.

On Wednesday, Trump appeared to suggest airstrikes were imminent, warning Russia, Syria's key ally, to "get ready" for military action.

Earlier, the US President Donald Trump has tweeted that Russian Federation should "get ready" for the firing of missiles at Syria as the US continues to affirm that the Syrian government was behind an alleged chemical attack on Saturday.

An explosion killed 11 people and wounded more than 80 on Monday in the rebel-controlled Syrian city of Idlib, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

Bruce Carpenter said Friday, April 13, 2018, that toxicology tests found Jennifer Hart had an alcohol level of.102. A specialized team of accident investigators is trying to figure that out with help from the FBI, Carpenter said.

The tweet followed an appearance by Russia's ambassador to Syrian-allied Lebanon, who told the Hezbollah-run television network Al-Manar that United States missiles would be shot down by Russian Federation, "as well as the sources they were fired from".

In London, British Prime Minister Theresa May held an emergency cabinet meeting to discuss support for USA action against the Syrian regime.

The U.S., France and Britain have been in extensive consultations about launching a military strike as early as the end of this week, U.S. officials have said.

But Mattis said collecting evidence becomes more hard as time passes.

"We call upon. members of the global community to seriously consider the possible consequences of such accusations, threats and especially action (against Syria)", she added.

He also called the Syrian leader a "gas killing animal".

Many people's initial reaction was that the airstrike was America's retaliation, but soon the finger was being pointed at Israel. Israeli planes then struck an Iranian installation in Syria from which, the IDF said, the unmanned aircraft had been operated.

But she says, "No final decision has been made".

The Russian military says the Syrian government is now in full control of town on the outskirts of Damascus that was held by the rebels and that was the site of suspected chemical attack over the weekend. It was not clear whether the presence of the investigators could affect the timing of any USA military action.

The Russian defense ministry said in a statement on Thursday that the situation in the town of Douma, just east of the Syrian capital in the Eastern Ghouta enclave, is "normalizing".

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has warned the Western states against any military action on his homeland.

There was no immediate confirmation or indication from Assad's government that Syrian troops entered Douma on Thursday.
