Amrita Sen from Energy Aspects said that in spite of Middle Eastern tensions and looming new USA sanctions on Iran, oil had outperformed most expectations this year and may have rallied too far too fast.

The United States plans to announce new targeted sanctions against Russian Federation over Moscow's support for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

"We are likely to get a sell-off this week as the extent of the Syrian strikes have been muted and, in general, calmer nerves prevail in Washington", she said.

The resolution involves stopping the chemical weapon program and using the stockpiles destroyed, a replica of hostilities and compliance with all Security Council resolutions, having the Assad regimen go back to Geneva talks and accountability for the use of the firearms along with other war offenses in Syria.

Her remarks come just a day after her country led fellow allies United Kingdom and France in launching air strikes in Syria in response to last weeks alleged chemical attacks.

Turkey terror trial set for US pastor
Turkey on Monday made a point of distinguishing between its own policies in the Middle East and those of Iran, Russia and the United States.

The announcement of new sanctions comes shortly after the US, Britain, and France conducted "precision strikes" in Syria on Friday in response to a suspected chemical weapons attack that reportedly killed dozens, many of them children, in the rebel-held Syrian town of Douma.

But she repeated a comment she made Saturday at an emergency meeting of the U.N. Security Council in NY, saying the U.S.is "locked and loaded" and ready to punish Syria again if it continues using chemical weapons.

Russian Federation has military forces, including air defences, in several areas of Syria to support Assad in his long war against anti-government rebels.

Following up on President Donald Trump's threat, the U.S. - along with allies Britain and France - rained cruise missiles at three locations in Syria on Saturday, the biggest strike by the West in the seven years of the war in Syria.

The British envoy to the OPCW said it had recorded 390 allegations of the use of banned chemicals in Syria since 2014, and that a failure by the OPCW to act risked allowing "further barbaric use of chemical weapons".

Trump tweeted Sunday that the strike was "perfectly carried out" and that "the only way the Fake News Media could demean was by my use of the term "Mission Accomplished." He added that he knew the media would "seize" on the phrase, but said it should be used often.

President Donald Trump's administration has placed sanctions on Russian individuals and entities, including penalties last month targeting Russian oligarchs who are close to President Vladimir Putin.

Syria, however, is interpreting the airstrikes as a victory for Assad, arguing that the limited scope of the strikes suggests that Western powers do not intend to challenge his rule. "This is not about trying to turn the tide of the conflict in Syria", he told the BBC, adding that Russian Federation was the only country able to pressure Assad to negotiate an end to the conflict.

"With the political and diplomatic actions that we're taking now, we wanted [Syria's] friends, Iran and Russian Federation, to know that we meant business and that they were going to be feeling the pain from this as well", Haley said.

Syria and Russian Federation deny chemical weapons were used in the final offensive that captured Douma, a rebel-held territory east of Damascus. According to Damascus, which has repeatedly said it had eliminated its chemical weapons stockpiles, the attack damaged Syrian infrastructure, and left three civilians injured. What happens next, she said, is up to Assad and his Russian and Iranian allies.
