Apple launches battery replacement program for specific 13-inch MacBook Pro models

Apple will replace your 13-inch MacBook Pro battery for free

Apple offers free battery replacements for select MacBook Pro models

Anyone who owns one of the 13-inch MacBooks and previously paid to have the battery replaced can check with Apple about whether or not they are eligible for a refund for that paid service.

Apple notes that 13-inch MacBook Pros (non-Touch Bar) manufactured between October 2016 and October 2017 are eligible for a free battery replacement. We've all seen what can happen when a battery malfunctions inside a laptop or smartphone, however, Apple is stating this is "not a safety issue". The goal of the initiative is to not only avoid problems with the MacBook Pro as a result of the battery failure but also to prevent burn injuries.

Apple agrees to start paying Irish government €13bn in back taxes
The finance ministry said Apple should start making payments into the fund in Q2 and complete the process by the end of Q3.

The new issue however is down to a component failure that can result in the battery in some non-touch MacBook Pros expanding. Eligibility is determined by the product's serial number which can be plugged into Apple's support page for verification. The serial number can be found on the retail box the laptop came in, on the bottom panel of the device, or in the "About this Mac" menu in macOS. You can find an Apple Authorized Service Provider near you, make an appointment at an Apple Retail Store or mail your computer into the Apple Repair Center. Users can find the serial number, printed physically on their device, by navigating to "About This Mac" on the device, or on their device's original packaging or receipt from Apple.

Apple announced last week that certain MacBook Pro models are eligible for free battery replacements. Depending upon the location, it will take up to five days for the battery to get replaced.

Opponents of the legislative lines argue the state should not have appealed the initial decision directly to the Supreme Court. Supreme Court is hearing oral arguments today in a consolidated case challenging Texas' House maps and congressional districts.

The battery replacement program is a worldwide effort, so if you bought one in any country, you are best checking whether or not you are affected.
