Patriots add martial arts expert as pass-rushing consultant

According to Ben Volin of the Boston Globe, the Patriots have hired Joe Kim, a martial arts expert, as a pass rush consultant for the 2-18 season.

An MMA expert who has previously worked with teams including Kansas City, Cleveland, Washington, and the New York Giants, Joe Kim first worked in the National Football League under Bill Belichick in Cleveland in 1992. Kim most recently worked with the Browns in 2016, when he coached now-Patriots defensive tackle Danny Shelton. Kim, who's worked with 10 National Football League teams since Belichick spotted him in the paper, will work with the Patriots on their hand-to-hand combat skills. "Kim will also coach pass-rushing linebackers such as Dont'a Hightower, and Kim has previously worked with offensive linemen to improve their hand combat, as well". After getting to the quarterback 11 times in their first two playoff games last season, including eight sacks against Tennessee's Marcus Mariota in the divisional round, the Patriots did not record a sack on Philadelphia quarterback Nick Foles in New England's Super Bowl LII loss to the Eagles.
